Strategies for Curing Acne

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Most sufferers of acne try to cure their broken skin with creams, face washes, special soaps, lotions and treatments. However, the easiest way to cure acne is by changing your diet and shunning acne-causing things such as fried food. A healthy diet, rich in organic unprocessed foods like vegetables, fruits, grains and beans is the first bit of advice for curing acne.

Foodstuffs with trans-fatty acids, chocolate, milk, milk products, margarine, shortening and man-made hydrogenated vegetable oils, as well as oily foods, should not be eaten. It appears that the prevalence of acne in the USA is made worse by the typical American diet. Americans usually eat fried food in great quantities and often cook it in the worst possible fats and oils.

However, not all fats are bad for you, but the fats and oils that the typical American consumes make them more prone to get acne and other skin problems. Items that can cause are ice cream, cheese, bacon, chocolate and milk. Furthermore, acne can’t actually be treated using external skin creams and expensive soaps because the basic cause of the condition exists beneath the skin.

Pimples, spots and blemishes are caused by bacteria and other irritants embedded below the skin’s oil glands and hair follicles, which are generally caused by improper hygiene, scratching and poor diet.

This poor diet could be caused by too high an amount of such items as processed, fatty, fried and sugary foods in your diet. A diet that is healthy for your skin emphasizes raw and lightly cooked vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables that contain valuable trace minerals and are rich in fibre. Fresh green vegetables are essential. You should also include in your diet lean protein sources and complex carbohydrates, like rice, whole-grain bread and potatoes.

These fibre-rich foods will help ensure a clean gastrointestinal tract, which is so vital to the control of acne. You should eat three healthy meals every day in order to provide you with sufficient important nutrients and lower your desire for sugary or/and oily, fried food.

You should eat more foods that are rich in vitamin A, such as apricots, watermelons, and broccoli, along with lean beef, lentils, nuts, beans and whole grains, because they are rich in zinc, which can also be helpful in preventing acne breakouts. It’s also vital to drink lots of water to help clean the toxins out that contribute to acne.

Dieting And Fitness As Tools

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

When it comes to living a long and healthy life, there are two important ingredients: diet and fitness. While some believe that they are indivisible, nothing could be further from the truth. It is quite possible to follow a perfectly healthy diet with deplorable fitness habits. It is just as possible to be physically fit with less than perfect eating habits.

There’s a smart little line in the Jimmy Buffet song “Fruitcakes” when his ‘lady’ is complaining: “I treat my body like a temple, You treat yours like a tent”

I can’t help thinking about this line whenever I think about all the people around the world who are on these garbage in, garbage out diet plans hoping to achieve the weight loss triumph of those who are endorsing the products.

To be totally honest, it is possible to shed pounds by dieting alone. It is difficult but possible. It is also possible to be physically fit and still have a few extra pounds. To a large degree, we are what we eat. If we follow a high fat low fibre diet our bodies are going to lack the fuel required to burn the fat. At the same time if we are not providing our bodies with the tools it requires to create muscle it does not matter how many weights we lift.

When it comes to diet and fitness, the best results are achieved when they are combined together rather. Use your fitness routine to burn surplus calories and use your diet in order to provide your body with the nutrients and fuel it requires to build muscle.

A pound of muscle takes up less space on the body than a pound of fat. Pound for pound, I would much prefer mine be composed of muscle than fat. Dieting alone does not build muscle and that is something you would do well to remember.

You should also realize that as you are building muscle you may be shedding inches while not showing a great deal of progress on the scale. It is very important that you keep this in mind throughout the weight loss process. Do not measure your progress by the scales alone or you will observe deceptive results.

The problem is that far too many people do just this, grow discouraged and give up when they are actually making improvement. Do not allow yourself to be a victim of the scales. Look in the mirror, try on your tight trousers, and measure your waistline. Measure your success by how you feel after climbing a flight of stairs not by the scales.

By building fitness into your diet routine you are also enabling your body to burn off any extra calories you may have consumed during the day. This means that if you want to have a small ‘cheat’ during your day, you can make up for it by burning a few more calories than normal in the evening. This is not something that should happen often but an occasional occurrence is not going to make or break your diet.

You should also consider dieting and exercise as a hand and glove type of relationship. They fit together. Diet and fitness when combined can create incredible weight loss results for those who take them both seriously.

The thing to remember is that neither works well alone and neither will work unless you are willing to do the work. You must make this a main concern in your life in order to achieve the best possible results.

Acne Scars

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Acne scars are a sad reminder of the having suffered pimples or even acne. They are intolerable because of their apparent permanence and their non-complimentary look. Generally speaking, acne scars are quite difficult to treat, but tissue regeneration is not unusual these days with all the amazing technological developments.

Generally speaking, by acne scars, we mean the healed lesions caused by an acne infection. While most scarring is temporary and will probably disappear on its own in time, scars from the more severe forms of acne can be permanent.

Acne scars can be prevented if the patient sees a doctor when it is in the incipient stage, particularly if nodules or cysts accompany the red pustules on the skin’s surface. If the bouts of acne have marked your skin, you will have to approach the problem from another perspective, which usually means surgery.

Laser resurfacing is one possibility of removing the damaged skin areas and stimulating the organic regeneration of the tissue underneath. This operation only requires local anaesthesia and can take between several minutes and an hour depending on the amount of the damage.

Fractional laser therapy is one of the most recent forms of removing acne scarring. It means surgical intervention at deep skin layers. The therapy is better than both dermabrasion and laser resurfacing in terms of quality and has a much reduced healing period. Nevertheless, fractional laser therapy lies within the reach of only those few lucky people, who can pay for it, since it is the most expensive acne therapy currently available.

It can happen that other sessions are necessary to improve the condition of the superficial layers of skin, before they can start the deep level treatment of the acne scarring. The doctor may inject collagen into the scars in order to elevate the existing skin level or she/he may recommend micro-dermabrasion for the same purpose. Trying to carry out chemical peels at home is a bad policy because of the risk of aggravating the condition by irritating the scars even more.

As for the types of acne scarring, they can be grouped by the way they look. Scars can result because of an increase of tissue or due to a loss of tissue They both have an adverse impact on the way the face looks. Specialists’ evaluation of the nature of the scars is a very important factor in deciding on the adoption of one form of treatment or another.

How To Keep Your New Year’s Resolution To Lose Weight.

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Without a shadow of a doubt, the most frequent New Year’s resolution in the West is to lose weight. However, it is also the first New Year’s resolution most likely to be broken! Losing weight is not difficult in theory, but practice is oh, so different. This is because it involves lifestyle changes.

Our bodies change as we get older and typically our level of activity decreases too. Maybe, we get an office job with a promotion, whereas we used to work ‘in the field’. But people in general, do not regulate their diet to match their change in circumstances. We sit behind our desks or in retirement and think we can still eat and drink like we did twenty years ago. Big mistake!

Fortunately, there are dozens of diets available to help us attain our weight loss goals. There are the traditional calorie counting diets, as espoused by Weight Watchers; there are the ‘new era’ diets like Atkins, which have us counting carbohydrates and there are no end of fad diets which are frankly not worth wasting time talking about.

The choice of which diet you would like to follow is all yours, of course, but it is well worth exploring the main types of diet to see which one will agree with you. Then you must determine whether you will require the help and encouragement of a weekly visit to a club or not, or whether you can get that companionship from an online club of slimmers, where you talk to fellow slimmers in the club forum online.

It is also worth fixing in your mind, why you want to diet. Is it to look better? Or to feel more at ease in yourself? Or is it for health reasons? Or all three? Have a think about your reasons and let them motivate you. Whenever, you feel like packing it all in, remember your motivation. Get a book and journal your progress, but first write your motivation in bold capitals on the front page or cover. Keep it in front of you and read it out loud to yourself every day.

Consult some of the slimming sites online and work out a few key metrics like the average weight people are for your height, sex and body type and your BMI or body mass index. Write these figures on the first page of your book too and use them as the ultimate goals.

You could produce a graph and plot your weekly weight to see how you are doing. Set realistic goals and targets. You can get heaps of free information from the Weight Watchers and Atkins websites or / and go to see your doctor for advice and leaflets.

Aim to lose something like 10-20 pounds in the first month and eight to ten per month after that. Go slowly and aim to go slowly, because then you will hit your targets and you won’t feel like giving up. When you get within five to ten pounds of your target weight, assuming that you have lost a lot of weight, rein back a little and allow yourself a little more freedom. Drop your target to one pound a week, so that you will get a feel for ‘eating normally’.

The dreaded exercise; you have to face it, you will need to do more exercise, but two times thirty minute walks a day is ordinarily enough. You could swim once a week too or get an exercise machine, if you are tied to the house by family.

Pregnancy And Acne

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The treatment of acne is normally the right move, if you have it, but not at all times. There are times in a person’s life when you should not treat acne, just because you’d like to and, unfortunately, pregnancy is one of those times. Everyone knows, that this is a tricky part in a woman’s life and that therefore she has to take extra care of herself. If a pregnant woman wants to try to cure her acne, she must see to it that she arms herself with the proper information.

This must also be remembered by those women who might become pregnant. The following are some treatments for acne that are not recommended for use during pregnancy because they may be harmful to the fetus:

Hormonal treatment which may include estrogen, flutamide, and spirolactone. They are a big no, no. They are harmful and may lead to some complications for both the mother and the child. It is best see it as a danger.

Isotretinoin is another one that would put a pregnant woman’s life in danger. It has negative effects as well especially for pregnant women and those that are breast-feeding. It may cause severe health hazards in both the mother and the fetus inside her womb. It is advised that a woman in the process of taking Isotretinoin should be monitored by a doctor. Those who are trying to get pregnant must avoid the use of Isotretinoin, because it may just trigger negative issues not only for mother but most especially for the child.

Oral tetracyclines, which could be of doxycycline, tetracycline or minocycline, may not be a choice on any account, because it is injurious. It has been shown that pregnant women or those who are breast-feeding should refuse the use of this drug at all costs, because it could produce side effects that are nothing short of a danger to the life of you and your child. However, the most common side effect is the permanent discoloration of your teeth or / and bone weakness.

Topical retinoids, like as tazarotene, adapalene and tretinoin, is the last group that should be completely refused. Just like the afore-mentioned treatments, topical retinoids may be a danger to you and your baby. Even whether you are pregnant or not, it is not wise to take any of the treatments mentioned above.

For sure, those women, who are pregnant and have acne, really have to refrain from the heavy therapies mentioned above. Instead, why not settle for more traditional remedies, like keeping your hair back off your face, washing your face three or four times a day, changing your pillow slips every day, consuming more fresh fruit and avoiding fatty, oily and spicy food?

The Rapid Weight Loss Con

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

It is a good idea to set yourself targets, if you want to achieve a goal. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about this. For instance, if you are a size 14 and you spend a fair bit of money on some beautiful size 8 dresses as motivation, you will probably feel quite cheesed off if you are not wearing them a month later.

It is not a good idea to make yourself feel awful, so the right way to have done this would have been to set smaller, more easily attainable, less expensive goals. A consequence of disappointing yourself like that could be depression or / and desperation and desperation to meet your targets can lead to stupid decisions.

Foolish decisions like following a fad diet, because it promises you rapid weight loss. There is no such thing as sustainable rapid weight loss without a change of lifestyle. Yes, you can go for surgery and have lumps cut off yourself or you can pump yourself full of diuretics and squeeze the water out of yourself, but the weight will come back, unless you change the way you live.

Any diet that promises rapid weight loss without recommending a healthier, more active lifestyle is doubtful. Many of these types of diet are fad diets. The organizers of these diets are only interested in selling you magic potion drinks or powders as meal substitutes. I have even seen one company selling magnetic earrings which were ‘guaranteed’ to make you lose weight, if you dieted and did more exercise!

Of course you will lose weight if you diet and exercise, but carrying the earrings around with you is not helping. It just adds to the depression when you read in the newspaper that the guru you have been following is outed as a charlatan.

Here are a few tell-tale signs to help you spot a phony diet:

Any diet that requires you to miss meals should start red lights flashing. If you stop eating, you are reducing the amount of calories you are consuming, so you can expect to lose weight. That is not rocket science. You do not need to pay for advice like that.

However, this approach does not necessarily work either. If you skip a meal, your blood/sugar levels will drop and that has different consequences for different people, but none of them are good. It will also increase the likelihood that you will overeat at the next meal. It would be better to eat a salad, an apple or a banana instead.

Any weight loss program that says you can lose weight without exercising or without dieting is definitely iffy too, because exercise is essential for good blood circulation and metabolism, which are vital to your losing weight and living healthily.

However, exercise alone will not guarantee good health, you have to diet too. In this context ‘dieting’ just means eating healthily.

You do not have to wear anything special to lose weight either. Electric vibrating belts, magnetic earrings, sweat-inducing cummerbunds and the like, do not work. Full stop. They do not work and in a similar vein, powder and liquid substitutes are not worth it either. Get a liquidizer and make your own or just eat properly.

Losing Belly Fat By Dieting

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The method of getting rid of the unsightly and potentially dangerous fat deposit around the waist cannot be undertaken seriously without a satisfactory belly fat diet, because the process has to start with a good diet, if it is going to work. You must have the right mental approach too, but it is not enough on its own.

You need to analyze your eating habits carefully, identify the good and bad foods that assist or hinder the weight loss process and eliminate the bad ones. There are many choices of belly fat diets to be had online and most of them stress the importance of adhering to a low-calorie plan.

Everyone knows these days that wholemeal, unprocessed or brown grains, seeds, certain vegetables, fruits, lean meat and fish should be the main components of any diet and it is the same for a belly fat diet too. Another useful strategy to use against that obstinate layer of fat around the waist is the use of good fats or oils in your cooking and the best examples here are olive oil, soy and flax oil as well as monounsaturated fats from avocado pears and seeds. Nutrients like these control the appetite, meaning that they moderate the pangs of hunger by producing a feeling of being full.

One advantage of a belly fat diet is that it creates excellent benefits for the whole digestive system, which means that constipation and bloating will be eliminated, thereby permitting your body to purge itself of toxins. Toxins can also be flushed away more easily if you drink plenty of water, fruit juice and green tea for instance.

Furthermore, a good night’s sleep of approximately eight hour’s sleep, coupled with moderate physical exercise will encourage the efficiency of any belly fat diet that you may choose.

Some of the belly fat diets provide suggestions for different breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, so that the dieter does not need to count calories – a sort of pick-n-mix approach. But it is far better to obtain lists of foodstuffs with portion sizes and their calorie count, so that you have enough flexibility to take pleasure in a wider variety of food.

It is not important for this article, which line of attack you want to take: high fibre, low carbohydrate, high protein, vegetarian, or fruit only, it is always a good idea for you be conscious of what you are putting on your table, because this will enable you to make a clearer identification of what works and what does not work for the loss of belly fat in your own individual case.

The chief objective of any belly fat diet is to burn more calories than you consume. If you do not accomplish this, no positive results will appear even after all the dietary changes you have implemented.

Whether you decide to go for calorie control or you prefer to continue with a slightly adjusted form of your normal diet combined with more physical exercise, it is up to you, but you have to make certain that you steer clear of any dangers and excesses of any kind and try to take a mid-course approach to weight loss, so that you are able to enjoy your accomplishments in a healthy condition.

Free Weight Loss Diets

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The march to health and fitness is raging and a lot of people are getting in on the act. Some people do it in order to achieve a sexy body, some people do it because they are embarrassed about their body as it is now, while others do it just to remain fit and healthy. Because of this, there are thousands of health programs on the Internet, in gyms, spas and fitness centres all over the world. Some are very – so dear that you will lose weight quickly, just because you have to work hard to earn the money to pay for these fitness programs.

You may not have to go to the gym or the spa or any fitness centre and spend much just to slim down and obtain that longed for beautiful body. There are many books available in the bookshops offering weight loss programs that are convenient and free. However, the books are not cheap though. These weight loss programs are gaining increased popularity because of their publicity, testimonials and reviews and you might be confused as to exactly which one to follow. So before you choose which weight loss plan to follow, try reading the following precis of the most popular diet programs out today.

The Atkins’ New Diet Revolution by Dr. Atkins: This weight loss program promotes a high protein diet and fewer carbohydrates. You can eat loads of vegetables and meat but must not eat bread and pasta. You are not restricted on your fat intake so it is OK to pour on the (correct) salad dressing and freely spread on the butter. However, during the diet, some people may find themselves short on fibre and high on fat and cholesterol. Grains and fruits are also severely limited.

The Carbohydrate Addict’s Diet by Drs. Heller. This diet programme also advocates a low carbohydrate diet. It recommends eating meat, vegetables and fruit, dairy and grain products. however, warns against taking in too many carbohydrates. So-called “Reward Meals” can be very high in fats and saturated fats.

Choose to Lose: by Dr. Goor. Restricts fat intake. You are given a “fat” budget and you are given free reign on how to use it. It does not pressure the individual to watch his carbohydrate intake. Eating meat and poultry as well as low-fat dairy and seafood is OK. You may also eat vegetables, fruits, cereals, bread and pasta. This weight loss plan is fairly healthy, because it recommends correct amounts of fruits and vegetables as well as saturated fats. Watch your triglyceride levels though. If they are high, cut down on the carbohydrates and eat more unsaturated fats.

The DASH Diet. Recommends eating a fairly moderate amount of fat and protein but lots of carbohydrates. It was primarily designed to lower blood pressure. The diet plan follows the pyramid food guide and encourages a high consumption of whole wheat grains and fruit and vegetables and low-fat dairy. However, some dieters think it advocates too much consumption to produce a significant weight loss.

Eat More, Weigh Less: by Dr. Ornish. Mostly vegetarian food and strictly low-fat. Warns to watch out for non-fat dairy and egg whites. This diet plan is low in calcium and restricts the consumption of healthy foods like seafood and lean poultry.

Eat Right for Your Type: It is unusual because it is based on your blood type. For example, it advises plenty of meat for people with the blood type O. Diet plans for some blood types are nutritionally imbalanced and too low in calories. Furthermore, for the record, there is no proof that blood type affects dietary requirements.

The Pritkin Principle: It focuses on cutting back on the amount of calories by eating ‘watery’ foods that make you feel full. It recommends eating vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, pasta, soups, salads and low-fat dairy, which it says is fine, although it also limits protein sources to lean meat, seafood and poultry. It is healthy because it provides low amounts of saturated fats and high amounts of vegetables and fruits. However, it is low on calcium and restricts lean protein sources.

Volumetrics: It recommends eating fewer calories. It recommends roughly the same foods as Pritkin but limits fatty food and dry foods like popcorn, pretzels and crackers. This program is reasonably healthy given the high volume of fruit and vegetables. It is also low in calories and saturated fats.

The Zone: It is moderately low on carbohydrates but fairly high on proteins. It encourages low-fat protein foods like fish and chicken plus vegetables, fruits and grains. It is also healthy but short on grains and calcium.

Weight Watchers: High carbohydrates, yet moderate on fats and proteins. A very healthy diet plan and very flexible too. It allows the dieter to plan his own meals rather than offering recipes, although there are WW TV dinners in the shops.

Dieting For Obese Children

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

It is difficult to see so many children literally overburdening their bodies at such young ages by being overweight. These kids cannot run, jump or play with other children because their bodies simply will not allow them to do so. Dieting is a necessity for these kids despite our best efforts to insulate them from the self-esteem issues that often accompany obesity.

If you have a child that is well outside the average weight range for his or her age, you are the one who must take the required steps to ensure that they shed those excess pounds in order to live a life that is as close to average as possible. The first thing you have to do however is consult your child’s physician about the best possible course of action to safeguard the health of your child.

Put quite bluntly however, if you do not make the effort to assist your child to shed those pounds you are placing the health of your child at risk. We do not let our kids play in the street, we do not let them run around with guns, why on Earth would we permit them to commit suicide by chocolate? If you have a child that is overweight, the following advice should help you and them with their dieting.

First of all, do not make food a penalty or a reward. Food is part of the problem with your children and you should not use it against them. Instead, introduce them to healthy alternatives. Do not keep junk food in the home and do not let them purchase lunch at school. Pack their lunches for school so that you know what they are eating. If you do not give them junk food to take away and they cannot have it when at home, they will be better off.

Incorporate healthy snacks into your family’s eating plan rather than junk food. Fresh fruit, chopped vegetables, nuts, and frozen yogurt are good healthy snacks for your kids. When in doubt, consult the food pyramid but watch calories in the process. You want your children to eat a well balanced diet and stop eating junk food and sweets.

Cut out the juices and pop. This may be a huge ordeal in your family but the greatest gift you can give your child is a deep and abiding liking of water. Water works to make their stomachs feel full and keeps them hydrated for the additional activities you should be introducing into their routines.

Make them take dance lessons, take up a sport, or simply get out and run around the yard. The worst thing you can do is to allow your children to become comatose television, computer, or video game zombies. Get them out of the house and get them active. This helps in two ways. First of all, they are not stuffing their faces if they are outside playing and having a good time. Second, they are burning calories as they play which is a big bonus in the dieting process of your children.

As your child begins to lose weight, you should begin to notice a very big difference in not only the way he or she carries his or herself but also in his or her interaction with others. Your child will notice a restored self-confidence as the pounds come off and the teasing at school stops.

If you are at a total loss as to how to help your child take the weight off there are camps that are intended specifically to deal with weight issues and building self-esteem in children aged 7-19. A camp may be just the answer you are looking for. Another thing to consider is to lead by example. If you do not eat junk food, if you are active, and if you do not engage in emotional over-eating your child will not be learning those behaviours from you or having them strengthened by you.
